THE BIGUÁ PROJECT operates on FOUR work fronts in three different Brazilian biomes: On the Jauaperi River (AM) , where riverside residents fight against illegal fishing; in the Upper Tapajós River (PA) , where indigenous people from the Munduruku ethnic group resist illegal mining; in Grajaú (MA) , where the Guajajara People are fighting to stop the advance of agribusiness on their lands; and in Rio de Janeiro , where the Universidade Pluriétnica Aldeia Marakanã disseminates ancestral knowledge and, despite being the only indigenous village in the city, is once again threatened with eviction.

THE BIGUÁ PROJECT is an initiative of the Cauiré Sociocultural and Environmental Ethnoknowledge Center , CESAC, to defend culture and ancestral territories through the exchange of knowledge between the forest and the city. With exchanges of knowledge about communication, cinema and human rights from the city; medicine, linguistics, musicality and ancestral cosmology from the forest; Biguá travels from the forest to large urban centers encouraging the self-determination of people, self-demarcation and autonomous management of their territories.
